Here and There

"This is the week we will depart Platform 1244... headed east northeast to land at number 1204.  Doesn't sound far, but it will be a week-long trip from Phoenix to Chicago to Northfield, Minnesota."

I composed that first paragraph on June 1st (just found it while composing my next blog entry),  never posted it and now it's September 6th! Yikes!

The kids are back at school. The last two nights in Minnesota have reminded us Fall is not far away.  Even in Arizona the early mornings are in the 80s.

New season…new year… time for me to go back to school myself.

I have been meaning to send regular updates, but Living Life... along with my timidity about social media... has stopped them dead in their tracks. So this is my new start.

Summer in Minnesota has been rich with family visits, painting, gardening, museums and street fairs, theater, baseball games, teaching, exhibiting at the Northfield Arts Guild shop and Members’ Show and taking a workshop on portrait painting from Tara Sweeney.

I was especially delighted about the class I took with Tara Sweeney.  We crossed paths at the American Swedish Institute where she is doing a series of paintings in one of the galleries. When I mentioned I was hoping to get better at drawing/painting people, she told me about the class she had coming up at Wet Paint. We spent two full days doing a portrait, but learning about drawing, value and color studies as well as her working methods and philosophy along the way.  She is a terrific teacher.  I'm excited to be experimenting with so many ideas she presented. Stay tuned.

There will be more from me soon(er)... I promise!

    Along the way....

When I first decided to create a website, I thought of it as a virtual catalog to "get my work out there".  Then I picked up a copy of Austin Kleon's Show Your Work. He so clearly states my sense of how we are a community of creatives who benefit from sharing our process and work; I decided it makes sense to blog and share mine. Enjoy.
